
Session #1: FASD in a Nutshell / Deep Dive into Risk Factors (March 5th – 10-11:30am EST)
- Define FASD and associated conditions, symptoms, risk factors, and explain why alcohol is dangerous to a developing fetus.
- Explain the prevalence of FASD un the US and Indiana, the costs of FASD, and the importance of prevention.
- Analyze maternal and paternal risk factors for alcohol exposed pregnancies.
- Identify risk factors for alcohol exposed pregnancies in patient settings.
- Describe protective factors to reduce risks of FASD.
Session #2: Substance Exposed Pregnancies- How did we get here and where are we going? (March 12th – 10-11:30am EST)
- Explore historical messaging and context regarding alcohol use and define current recommendations during pregnancy.
- Explain the prevalence of alcohol use among women of childbearing age.
Session #3: From Conception to Cognition (March 19th – 10-11:30am EST)
- Analyze how prenatal alcohol exposure affects a developing brain.
- Describe the link between brain function and behaviors and challenges and strengths of those prenatally exposed to alcohol.
- Identify behavioral and verbal cues with a client that may indicate an FASD.
Session #4: Prevention of Substance Exposed Pregnancies (March 26th – 10-11:30am EST)
- Recognize the community needs in Indiana related to prevention of FASD.
- Learn evidence-based FASD prevention strategies
CEU Information:
Each course provides 1.5 CEU’s. CEU’s are Category 1 CEU provided by Indiana State statute 839IAC 1-6-2(F)(86). MHAI Stanley W. DeKemper Training Institute provides CEU’s for the following:
- Addiction Counselors
- Social Workers
- Marriage & Family Therapist
- Mental Health Counselors
- Certified Peer Recovery Professionals (CAPRC, CARC, CHW/CRS, CHW, CCHW)
