Introduction/Basic Motivational Interviewing: Helping People Make Helpful Decisions: Most people who know they need to make healthy/helpful changes are ambivalent about doing so. This training is for persons at all professional levels who guide clients to strengthen their motivation and commitment to make changes. With over 40 years of research, Motivational Interviewing (MI) has proven to be effective in harnessing the person’s own commitment to change. This is a facilitated training which is conversational in nature including both didactic and practice elements of MI. Persons attending will understand how MI works and practice the SPIRIT and Micro-Skills of MI. They will understand the importance of strengthening ‘Change Talk” and how to respond to “Sustain Talk”. Additional elements of MI presented will be the 4 Processes, Managing Discord, Strategies to Elicit Change Talk, etc.

George Brenner M.S., LCSW, LMFT, LCAC has a master’s degree in Psychology from the University of Evansville. George is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Marriage and Family Therapist, and Clinical Addictions Counselor in the State of Indiana.
