At Indiana Alliance on Prenatal Substance Exposure, we are proud to collaborate with dedicated professionals who make a lasting impact on their communities. This month, we are spotlighting Deborah Hudson Buckles, a nationally certified Tobacco Treatment Specialist who has been transforming lives in the healthcare field for 28 years.
Deborah’s journey has been one of perseverance and innovation. After starting as a respiratory therapist, she saw an opportunity to create a new role focused on tobacco treatment—an idea that required pitching to multiple healthcare entities before finding a willing partner. Her dedication has since shaped a career centered around helping others lead healthier lives.
Beyond her professional achievements, Deborah has faced personal challenges with resilience. Balancing a career while raising two young children and caring for a spouse during his battle with cancer tested her strength in ways few can imagine. Yet, through it all, she remained committed to her mission of making a difference.
When asked what advice she has for others, she emphasizes the importance of setting goals, pushing through challenges, and seeking support from trusted colleagues, friends, and family. Her ability to uplift those around her—both professionally and personally—makes her an invaluable part of our community.
Outside of work, Deborah enjoys traveling, boating, and spending time with her family, including her two daughters, stepson (soon heading to the Navy), and her supportive husband, Kris.
We are honored to highlight Deborah and her dedication to improving lives through her work and her unwavering spirit. Thank you for being an inspiration in our community!
