ANCHORAGE (KTUU)- The American Mother organization named Anna Joy Luckett the Alaska Mother of the Year.

“For my children, I absolutely love them and they have not gotten a fair shake at life and most of those kids in foster care are in the same situation,” said Luckett.Luckett said she has spent countless nights rocking babies through detox or comforting little ones with relentless nightmares.

Luckett is a mother of five, with three adoptive daughters, plus a biological son and a foster daughter.

Luckett said one of her kids has been diagnosed with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FSAD) and two of her children are being tested and receiving therapy for FSAD.

“Several of my kids have that diagnosis of FASD,” said Luckett. “If we do not do something we are going to lose an entire generation of people to incarceration.”

Alaska’s mother of the year’s mission is to bring awareness to people with FASD and education other on ways to help people with FASD.

“A lot of them don’t have impulse control or they don’t have the ability to react as fast,” said Luckett.
