Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASDs) are the full spectrum of birth defects caused by prenatal alcohol exposure. One prevention challenge is that women receive mixed messages regarding the risks of alcohol use during pregnancy. Screening and providing intervention services is essential to reduce the risk of an alcohol-exposed pregnancy and FASDs. It is critical for healthcare providers to reinforce the message that there is no safe amount, no safe time, and no safe type of alcohol use during pregnancy.

ACOG, The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, produced this video with Dr. Tricia Wright, District VIII Champion.  Dr. Wright speaks about the importance of giving the clear message that no amount of alcohol is safe during pregnancy.  She explains that it is inaccurate to compare the risks of alcohol with the risks of caffeine during pregnancy.
